Why the Cross?

cross on the mountain

What comes to your mind when you see the cross? For some it is simply a religious symbol. For others it represents the horror of the crucifixion of Jesus. But for followers of Christ, it represents the victory won by Christ over death, Satan and sin forever.

As we approach the Easter Holiday, Resurrection Day, many will focus on the cross. Why the cross? Because the cross is where Jesus Christ, the Son of God, suffered and died to pay for our sins. Because of our sins we were doomed, for the wages of sin is death (Rom. 3:23). But because of God's great love for us, He gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life, John 3:16. So, Jesus is our substitute who died on the cross in our place. His death on the cross and resurrection on the third day was all a part of God's wonderful plan to save his people from eternal damnation.
