Who Am I?

Most of us have played the game called " Who Am I." It is where game participants guess the traits and characteristics of famous, historical or fictional characters identifying who they are. But, the question "Who am I?" is more than a game. It is a real life question asked by many. People the world over have wondered about who they are and what their purpose is on this earth. It is often during trouble times when people worry, have doubts and ask questions.

Scripture tells us we will encounter times of trouble in this world (John 16:33). However, as Christians we do not have to worry or wonder "who we are" or "why we are here." God has given us answers to these questions in His word. Because Christ died for our sins, those who put their trust in Him belong to Him. We are a new creation and His righteousness (2 Cor. 5:17 ,Ephesians 4:24). Christians mean more to God than labels that the world uses. We are God's royal priesthood (2 Peter 2:9). We are highly favored and His prized possession (Deut 7:6). He supplies all our needs according to His riches (Phil.4:19). He enables us to do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil. 4:13). God has blessed His people in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Eph. 1:3).

So, in Christ, I am more important to God than any identity label (i.e. famous, wealthy, poor, intelligent, athletic, beautiful, successful, race or group). In Christ, I am the following:

· I am loved by God (Eph. 1:4)

· I am chosen by God (Eph.1:4)

· I am called by God (Eph. 2:8)

· I am justified/forgiven by God (Rom. 8:1)

· I am reconciled to God (Rom. 5:1-2)

· I am redeemed by God (Eph. 1:7)

· I am marked with a seal by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13)

· I am adopted by God (Eph. 1:5)

· I am an heir of God and co-heir with Christ (Rom. 8:17)

· I am more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:37)

· I am regenerated by God (Titus 3:5)

· I am set apart for God (Rom. 12: 1-2; 1 Peter 1:15-16)

· I am sanctified by God (Rom. 12:2)

· I am kept by God (1 Peter 1:5; John 10:27-29)

· I am glorified by God (1 John 3:2)

· I am complete in Christ (Coloss. 2:10)

· I am the light of the world (Matt. 5:14)

Finally, "Why am I here on earth?" Since God is our Creator, we belong to Him and not to ourselves. Our purpose here on earth is to know God, love God, enjoy God and glorify God (Gen. 1:26, Ps. 16:11, 1 Peter 4:11). When we do these things, we will know who we are in Christ. God will give us His joy and His peace. We will live the blessed life God has for us even in times of trouble.
