A Conversation with The Defenders of Democracy
This month we kick off our new season by celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the My Divine Living Blog and the 3rd year anniversary for the MDL Podcast! We give all praises to God for another amazing year to glorify Him and for the opportunity to mature His people! “Hallelujah” and “Thank God” for these outstanding milestones! God has brought us so far and He has much more in store for us!
In Addition, as we honor our Nation’s monumental 250th birthday, we focus on the defenders of our democracy. We interview the defenders of our democracy, retired members of our nation’s military! These defenders, discuss why they joined the military, what democracy means to them, and how can everyday citizens help to protect our democracy.
It is important to know that the military defends freedom/democracy primarily by upholding and defending the U.S. Constitution against all threats, foreign and domestic. They accomplish this through active deterrence, guarding national borders, securing vital global trade routes, and projecting power to maintain stability, ensuring citizens can live and express themselves freely. Every service member takes a Constitutional oath to support and defend the Constitution, which establishes the rule of law and the fundamental rights that define American freedom (Google Research).
Former President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same!” In other words, democracy is not inherited from our forefathers. Each generation must keep fighting to protect it and not take it for granted!
As we spoke with these retired military members, their responses were on one accord. Each of them stated that defending our nation’s constitution and protecting our nation’s freedom was their unified goal. Being unified is a biblical principle. Scripture says, “A house divided cannot stand,” Matthew 12:25. This is true for any group, family, team, military or nation.
Finally, we appreciate all of our defenders of democracy for their bravery and selfless sacrifices for our nation. Former President Harry S. Truman once said, “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”
