All Things for Our Good

This week I finished my second round of the COVID vaccine with no side effects. My husband completed his second vaccine a couple of weeks earlier, with no problems. From the moment the vaccines became available my husband eagerly registered us both. He happily set up his appointment time without hesitation when notified. I, on the other hand, was skeptical and hesitant at first. Like many, I questioned the vaccine’s rapid development, short term testing, chaos and confusion surrounding such a crucial medication. There are some people who still question the ingredients or chemical makeup of the vaccines. But seriously speaking, as lay people, do we really know the composition of any of our medications, previous vaccines or even many of the foods we eat? However, I do know that the Lord is all powerful and in control of all things. He has always provided doctors and medications for His people. And, I know that ultimately, He is our healer.

In regards to my anxiety, I remembered one of my favorite scriptures, Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” “And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. So, I took my concerns and questions about the vaccine to the Lord in prayer and searched the scriptures. First of all, I was reminded that Christians walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Second, The Lord tells us, to forget not all of His benefits, for He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases (Psalm 103:2-3). The Lord cares for His people and provides for all their needs (Philippians 4:19), including vaccines! Third, we are not to lean on our own understanding, but acknowledge God always and He will make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). We are to rely on His Holy Spirit who gives us wisdom and guides us into all truths (John 16:12). The Lord will also protect His children and not allow any weapons formed against them to prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Finally, whatever the circumstances, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Roman 8:28).
