Part 1
As we celebrate Black History, we are reminded of a quote by President Joe Biden that says, “Black History Month is more than a celebration. It’s a powerful reminder that Black history is American history. It’s critical that we take the time to celebrate the contributions of Black Americans, honor the legacy of generations past, reckon with centuries of injustice and confront injustice that still festers today.”
This month’s Podcast on Black History welcomes the former mayor of Garland Texas, Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Jones and his beautiful wife, Dr. Peggy Jones. Dr. Ronald Jones made history in Garland when he was elected the city’s first African American Mayor in 2007. He went on to serve three terms as the city’s Mayor. He won three-way races in 2007 and 2009, winning more that 83% of the vote in his reelection bid. Jones was unopposed in 2011.
Garland is the 11th largest city in Texas and the 86th largest city in the nation. The mayor’s wife, Dr. Peggy Jones, has been an integral part of his success, serving as his campaign manager during the elections.
Dr. Ronald and Dr. Peggy will share with us their amazing life story as servant leaders in their community, church and most important in their family. We will discuss how this power couple managed to balance running a large city, pastor the oldest black church in Dallas and maintain a family life!
Finally, we learn that Mayor Dr. Ronald E. Jones made Black History again when his 30 years of government service was honored with the renaming of the Garland Municipal Building as the “Ronald E. Jones” Municipal Building in 2023!
As we hear from this amazing couple, we are reminded of Phil. 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Food for Today:
Things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us, we will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, his might, and the wonders that he has done.” Psalm 78:3-4
