Our Podcast interview continues part 2 with the former Mayor of Garland Texas, Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Jones and his lovely wife, Dr. Peggy Jones. Mayor Jones and Dr. Peggy answer candid questions about their life as public servants, as Garland’s first black mayor and First Lady while balancing family life.
Mayor Jones also pays tribute to Annie Dixon, the first black person to run for mayor in 2000 and the first black woman to serve on the Garland City Council. Mayor Jones credits Mrs. Dixon as a trailblazer. He admits that he even launched his mayoral campaign from her home.
We also discuss Mayor Jones’ greatest accomplishments as well as the renaming of the Garland Municipal Building in his honor. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Mayor Jones and Dr. Peggy are selfless servant leaders. They are the epitome of this scripture! Be sure to tune in and listen to this dynamic couple as we conclude our celebration of Black History Month.
Food for Today:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
