Color Her Trailblazer
Kamala Harris recently made history when she was sworn in as Vice President to Joseph R. Biden our 46th President of the United States of America. Harris is the first woman and first person of color to ever hold the Office of Vice President of the United States of America. The former senator from California stands on the shoulders of many other ground breaking women of color who dared to dream big and work for the betterment of all mankind.
A few of those other ground breaking women of color include Harriet Tubman – Abolitionist, Sojourner Truth – Women’s Rights/Racial Equality, Mary McCleod Bethune – Educator/Founder of Bethune Cookman College, Rosa Parks – Civil Rights Activist, Coretta Scott King – Civil Rights Activist, Fannie Lou Hamer – Civil Rights/Voting Activist, Angela Davis – Racial Inequality Activist/Professor, Shirley Chisholm – 1st African American woman Elected to Congress and 1st woman of color to run as a U. Presidential Candidate, Barbara Jordan – U.S. House of Representatives, Carol Mosely Braun – 1st African American woman elected U.S. Senate, Loretta Lynch – 1st African American female Attorney General in American history, and Michelle Obama – 1st African American First Lady of the United States.
Vice President Harris is an attorney, former prosecutor, former District Attorney, former Attorney General, and former Senator, all for the state of California. Harris is an advocate for justice, fighting against racial discrimination, economic and educational inequality and all injustices. You could say that Vice President Harris has been well prepared for her position. Like numerous other ground breaking women of color who went before her, you can color her “Trailblazer”.
