Honoring Mama

Mother is one of the most precious words in any language! Why? Because it is mother who carries you inside her body and brings you into this world. Although both parents, father and mother are equally important and needed, it is usually mother who is there for us in any situation. She nurtures and cares for our every need when we are young. She loves us unconditionally for a lifetime. As children, mother is the one we cry out for when hungry, sick, in pain, fear or in distress. Even as adults, we may call for mama in a difficult situation.

Webster defines mother as a female parent; a woman who has borne a child; She is the source or origin of birth. However, we know that a mother can be any woman who loves, nurtures, cares for or raises a child. Although they may not be biological, a loving grandmother, aunt, friend, foster parent or adoptive mother can also be mothers.

God gives us the epitome of motherhood in His word. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her (Proverbs 31:25-28).

In this month’s Podcast we honor our mama and others as we discuss characteristics of a godly mother. Abraham Lincoln once said, “No man is poor who has a godly mother.” This says to me that a godly mother is priceless.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, honor your mother or their legacy as the selfless, humble and beautiful individuals they are.
