In His Excellence

When I was young, I often resolved to make New Year’s resolutions. My plans usually involved some type of self – improvement such as being less shy, bolder, making more friends and even being a better person all around. Unfortunately, like many people who make New Year’s resolutions, my plans were more talk than actions. Perhaps I lacked discipline or maybe I just didn’t know how to be successful.

Scripture tells us that as Christians, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, Philippians 4:13. This most certainly includes accomplishing our New Year’s resolutions or any other task. So, the key to any success is knowing Christ as our Lord and Savior, and relying on Him to accomplish all things. Thankfully, I’ve since received the Lord as my Savior and have come to know this.

Therefore, our greatest resolution for the New Year should be that we desire to follow God’s plan to live our lives His way, and in His excellence. Jesus’ divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires, 2 Peter 1:3-4.
