Man of Honor

How would you define an honorable man? Some definitions include, one who adheres to what is right, one who believes in truth, has a high standard of conduct, integrity, high morals, loves family, is respected and admired. While these are important and admirable traits that should not be disregarded but rather sought after, they are from the world’s perspective. But the bible defines an honorable man from God’s perspective.

Scripture tells us first of all that, honor comes from God (1 Chronicles 29:12). One cannot be considered as honorable unless he honors God first, then God will honor him (1 Samuel 2:30). The honorable man fears God. He keeps God’s word as well as his own. He does what is right, speaks truth, does not slander, does no wrong to his neighbors or fellowman (Psalm 15:2-4). The honorable man serves God by serving others, beginning with caring and providing for his family, honoring his parents, serving his church, his community and his nation (Exodus 20:12, John 12:26). He helps those in need by lending a hand when help is needed or by giving to those who can’t give anything in return. The honorable man doesn’t take advantage of the innocent or accept bribes from under the table (Psalm 15:5).

God bestows His favor and honor on this man who is blameless and He will not withhold any good thing from him (Psalm 84:11). Finally, with all of his qualities, the honorable man knows that he is not perfect. But God honors him because he heeds God’s correction (Proverbs 13:18).

As we celebrate Father’s Day, thank God for the honorable man in your life. Although he is not perfect, the man who does God’s will is worthy of honor!
