Revisiting Witnessing 101

A few years back I did an article on Witnessing 101, so I thought this is a great time to revisit the topic. After all, it is the homework assignment that Jesus left for us to do!

So why is witnessing so important? First of all, it is a mandate from Jesus himself to us His people to witness to others. He tells us in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you! This doesn’t have to be a fearful or intimidating thing, we can start with our family, friends, acquaintances, and co-workers before we go to the strangers in the world like neighbors, store clerks, repair people, telemarketers, doctor’s office patients/workers, sporting events or any place with people!

I once heard a bible teacher give an illustration comparing “Witnessing” with “not witnessing”. She said, “Not witnessing is like seeing a person who is unaware that he is about to be struck by an 18-wheeler truck.” “However, you see the truck coming, but you don’t warn that person to move out of the truck’s path.”

Jesus is coming back to receive His people. No one knows the time of His return, only the Father in heaven knows, Mark 13:32. The “Eternal Roll” is being called every day for individuals young and old, sometimes in masses, transitioning into eternity. We don’t know how many of them know Jesus as their Savior. But, for those who are unsaved, their eternal lives are in imminent danger.

In this month’s Podcast, we highlight a witnessing opportunity I had with a young lady who is a telemarketer. During our conversation we discuss her disbeliefs about Jesus, His Word and where she will spend eternity.

Finally, witnessing to others is crucial, because where one spends eternity is crucial! It has been said that “Witnessing is like one beggar telling another beggar where to find food”! By witnessing, we’re planting a spiritual seed. Others will water that seed, and it is up to God the Father to draw that individual to Jesus for Salvation, 1 Corinthians 3:6, John 6:44.

Food for Today

So, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28
