Spring’s Hope
Spring brings hope for new beginnings. It is a time many look forward to. Most enjoy the warmer weather, longer sunny days, and refreshing spring showers. Many welcome the opportunity spring brings for cleaning, planting, growing and observing the beauty of nature.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I began cleaning our yard for spring. We raked the flower beds, pruned the shrubs and had the trees trimmed. We also pruned and potted several herb plants and ordered our caladium bulbs for the flower beds. After many years, we decided to plant a small vegetable garden again. So, we planted some green onions, hybrid and cherry tomatoes. We then sent up a little prayer to keep the birds and squirrels from turning our gardens into a buffet.
Finally, we knew spring was near when our neighbor’s kids pet bunny, “Peter Rabbit”, escaped from their yard twice, and came over to explore ours! These fun and delightful experiences give us joy and hope as we look forward to a beautiful new spring.
Christians have hope too as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus each spring. As Jesus prepared to go to the cross, He gave a metaphor in scripture of how planting one dead seed produces many seeds. Jesus told His followers that, “unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.” “But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12:24). Jesus represents the kernel of wheat that died, was planted and then produced many seeds!
Jesus offers hope for new beginnings. This is what Jesus’ resurrection is all about! Jesus was crucified on the cross and died for our sins. He was buried and God raised Him from the dead in three days! Jesus’ death and resurrection provides new life, new beginnings and hope for many, not only for a new spring but for eternity. Jesus is risen and He offers salvation to all (Luke 24:6)!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
